POSITIONEN & THEMEN
(3.3.2014)
The emergency is the political dialogue between all involved forces – Ukrainian and foreign – under the auspices of the UN to stop the military spiral and the interference of foreign powers. This meeting should have taken place long ago. NATO must remain outside the process. Dialogue with Russia is essential for peace and political solution on the one hand, and for any EU policy in the region on the other. Cooperation must replace the struggle of influence.
We must now ensure that the Ukrainian people take control of its future through parliamentary elections, the establishment of a legitimate power in a strengthened democratic framework. The control of the country's resources and main choices for international cooperations must belong to the Ukrainians. The partition of the country can be avoided. The sovereign people can decide to make Ukraine an independent country, free of corruption, oligarchies and violence of the extreme right.
The Party of the European Left strongly condemns any attempts to prohibit the Communist Party and the attacks by the fascists and right-wingextremists against its members and offices. The authorities should take all necessary measures to prevent such attacks and to bring the responsibles to justice.
